 Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a therapist and an Intern?
In order to become licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in the state, one must acquire a Master's Degree in the field, receive 3,000 hours of supervised experience, and pass the state examination. Marriage and Family Therapist Interns have completed their Master's Degree, and are in the process of obtaining their 3,000 hours towards licensure. Interns are supervised by licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

Do you take insurance?
Yes! We accept most insurance, including but not limited to: Health Net, Ceridian, Cigna, Aetna, Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO, Victim's Witness, and Employee Assistance Programs. Please inquire with me directly to see if we can accept your specific insurance. Please also note that insurance companies typically require clients to receive a diagnosis for care and may request to see personal records and this can sometimes feel like an invasion of your privacy. They also prefer to determine how many sessions you are entitled to. I do offer services on a sliding scale, based upon your income, as needed, if you choose not to go through your insurance.

What is the cost of treatment?
The cost of each 50-minute session is $80. This is low cost as therapy typically costs between $100-$150 per session. I also have a few slots open for sliding scale clients, which is based upon your income. Contact me directly to find out what this means for you, I can work with you so that you can afford the help you need.

How long does a client come to therapy for?
Each session is typically 50 minutes in length, and is typically once a week at a regular day/time. You can choose to come more than that or less than that, I often have clients come every other week to keep costs down, and I can also see you for 80-minute sessions to cut costs of transportation. The process of treatment is very individual and it completely depends on each client's needs.

What times are you available for an appointment?
I typically see clients on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and some Fridays. Appointments can be made for the morning, afternoon, and some evenings. I can see clients on the weekends on an as needed basis. Please contact me directly to make an appointment.

How does Child Therapy work?
If you are bringing your child to therapy, you will need to attend the first session, we will go over the process, talk about what is happening, set some goals for therapy, and fill out brief paperwork. Thereafter it will be an option for your child whether or not they would like you to attend the sessions with them; preferably therapy is for the child, and works best if it is just their time with me. If your child is going to be participating in the Advanced Integrative Psychotherapy technique, then I prefer the parents to attend these sessions because it requires laying on of hands on the child's energy centers.
